Should A Poet Work?

A Poets Corner Posted on December 15, 2019 by Patricia WalterDecember 15, 2019

Should a Poet Work? poem by Patricia WalterShould a Poet Work?

I’m really in a rut and feeling blue
maybe I need a job just like you.
I’ll get up at 6, take a shower and eat
get ready for work, I’m already beat.
Hop in the car, hurry and wait
feel like a race horse dancing at the gate.
Finally get to work, arriving too late
my co-workers stare, I think I’m bait.
Make it till 10, then take a little break
here comes the boss, can I stay a little late?
Of course I can, a smile on my face
I know what to do, … Read the rest

A Summer Cold

A Poets Corner Posted on December 15, 2019 by Patricia WalterDecember 15, 2019

A Summer Cold Poem by Patricia Walter

A Summer Cold

Yucky stuff, these stinky colds.
Nose so clogged, couldn’t small a rose.
Taking it easy, sitting in a chair
feeling so rotten, I just don’t care.
Taking a nap in the middle of the day
hoping when I wake – it’s gone away.
No such luck with a cold in your head
about all you can do is stay in bed.
I’m sneezing and wheezing, wiping my nose
a big pile of Kleenex covers my toes.
It will soon be a memory, all but forgotten
I won’t even remember that I felt so rotten

My Old Sneakers by Patricia Walter

My Old Sneakers by Patricia Walter

My Old Sneakers

My old sneakers look abused

that’s because they’ve really been used.

They’ve traveled are and traveled near

if you listen closely, many stories you’ll hear.

They’ve walked the roads, tracked thru grass

sometimes sloww and sometimes fast.

I’ll miss my friends when they’re thrown away

I hear them wish that they could stay.

Beach Memories 2019

Beach Memories

Sitting on the porch

Remembering the day

When that strange

Flamingo passed my way.

So cute and pink

With Drink in hand

Walking the beach

Kicking sand.

Computers Looking and watching staring at the screen boy, those computers can really be mean. You press one key then go back everything's gone - just like that! Nothing easy clicking and moving messages pop up you're not grovin. Hit the help key get out a book it's finally working the hours it took! Poetry & Art by Patricia Walter 2005 ©

Looking and watching
staring at the screen
boy, those computers
can really be mean.

you’re not grovin.
Hit the help key
get out a book
it’s finally working
the hours it took!

The Computer

A Poets Corner Posted on September 22, 2016 by Patricia WalterSeptember 22, 2016

The Computer They said it would be easy learning the PC. But everything I do never wants to be. I press the keys look at the screen boy those messages can really be mean. I'm looking for help searching the books all I get are computer mean looks. Moving the mouse clicking away hoping to find what I need to say. Something I did something I hit made it work I don't have to quit. Whoever said it's really easy makes my stomach really queasy. Poetry & Photo by Patricia Walter 2002 ©

Saturday

A Poets Corner Posted on September 18, 2016 by Patricia WalterDecember 9, 2019

Saturday Sitting around Saturday, nothing to do should I take a walk or visit the zoo. find the number of a really old friend call them up, find out how they've been. Mow the lawn, weed the garden let it grow - dear neighbors, beg my pardon. Wash the car, wax the old girl throw clothes in the dryer, give them a twirl. Sweep the floors, pick up the dust clean the grill, remove the rust. The options are clear - the work must be done but I really want to be out on the run. Meet new friends, visit new places the thought of it all - my blood races. Life's too short to worry and fret try new things for the joy you'll get. Don't sit around Saturday with chores to do or housework surely will make you blue. Poetry & Art by Patricia Walter 2000 ©

Picnic

A Poets Corner Posted on September 17, 2016 by Patricia WalterSeptember 17, 2016

Picnic Pack up the kids, the stuff and the dog off to the park, out of the smog. A place for a party and a little meal really doesn't need to be a great big deal. A little fried chicken, some chips and slaw make it at home, no restaurant to call. Maybe some hot dogs cooked on a stick they taste so good, always do the trick. Add some mustard, nestled on a bun the kind of food you can eat on the run. A little game of catch, a swim in the lake a lot of fun, nothing to fake. A picnic is great, an outing for the day Dad naps in the hammock, not even a sway. It's better than a trip to shop at the mall a really good time will be had by all. The Ants

A Poets Corner Posted on September 17, 2016 by Patricia WalterMarch 20, 2019

The Ants the ants march in and the ants march out sometimes they really cause a person to pout. They steal a little food, take a crumb or two mkae you feel like you're in the zoo. They crawl up your leg, tickle your arm you jump and yell, sound the alarm. Quick - move the blanket and basket of food find a new spot - where the ants aren't rude. Potato Chips

A Poets Corner Posted on September 17, 2016 by Patricia WalterMarch 20, 2019

Potato Chips I really love those potato chips, pass so quickly over my lips. A burst of salt on the end of my tongue, yummy and tasty, so much fun. You can eat them plain, they all taste the same. Get some dip from the corner store, you'll soon be out and run for more. Thin and round, thick and wavy, seldom served with sausage gravy. Nothing like a bag that's new and fresh, soon to be gone without a mess. Don't need a spoon, fork or knife, potato chips are the staff of life. Poetry & Art by Patricia Walter 2000 ©

Peanut Butter

A Poets Corner Posted on September 17, 2016 by Patricia WalterMarch 20, 2019

Peanut Butter Peanut butter is fun and gooey some people think that's just plain hooey. They don't understand the joy of the spread smear it with jelly on your favorite bread. Too silly for grown up, it's just kids stuff they frown and growl in a great big juff. The've just lost touch with the joys of youth they must be served in a restaurant booth. No frills or china required my friend doesn't cost a bundle, no rules to bend. Enjoy a sandwich, use a napkin or two with peanut butter and jelly you never feel blue! I Like to Sing, I Like to Hum

A Poets Corner Posted on September 17, 2016 by Patricia WalterSeptember 17, 2016

I Like to Sing, I Like to Hum Sometimes I sing, sometimes I hum people say - I've been in the rum. I like to laugh, I like to grin people think I was drinking again. I tell a story or tell a joke all I had was a nice cold Coke. The happiness and joy I like to display is just because I'm made that way. I don't need a drink to give happiness a start all I need lives right in my heart. Poetry & Art by Patricia Walter 2000 ©I Like to Sing, I Like to Hum
