To Do or To Be

A Poets Corner Posted on September 12, 2016 by Patricia WalterDecember 15, 2019

To Do or To Be 1To Do or To Be

To be is often crowed out by to do.
To do the dishes, to do the washing, to do the lawn.
To do is so loud, so active, so high energy,
that to be is often forgotten.

Life becomes meaningless acts of to do without to be.
To be quiet, to be with self,
to be with Spirit, to be with God.

To be gives great meaning to life.
To be is the connection with a greater Spirit.
To be gives hope, serenity and joy.

Quiet Gifts

Quiet Gifts

Quiet gifts touch the spirit and heart.
Absolutely free, not costing a penny
taking only a few moments from the day.

A soft touch to the shoulder
quietly holding hands
a warm hug when least expected.
Quiet gifts of love and appreciation.

Sitting still and listening
walking slowly hand in hand
watching children play in the park.
Quiet gifts of life.

Quiet gifts touch heart and soul
give meaning to life and love.
Honesty, trust and appreciation
are truly quiet gifts of the heart.

We Are All Little Kids at Heart

A Poets Corner Posted on September 12, 2016 by Patricia WalterJanuary 5, 2019

We Are All Little Kids at Heart 2We Are All Little Kids At Heart

We are all little kids at heart.
We look like adults, we act like adults,
but deep inside, there’s still a little kid.

We are so easily hurt, even though we know better!
We are so jealous, even though we know better!
We are so quick to anger, even though we know better!

It’s hard to act grown up when the little kid inside is
so tender, so vulnerable, so easily hurt.
We have no Dad to run to, no Mom to hug us.

It’s OK to have the joy of a kid,… Read the rest

The River

The River

The flow, the freedom, the fury, the floods.
all faces of the river and its endless show.
Sometimes boring, quiet and calm
other days churning with anger and waves.
Her banks overflowing from torrents of rain
her speed too quick to follow.
The current carries trees, debris
and unknown victims in its path.
Nothing can stop the anger of the river.
No dams, dykes or sandbags
contain this powerful giant!
So we lean to live
with this river of power.
To love the beauty and accept her gifts.

To My Mom

 To My Mom

I’ll always remember the time we spent together.
The fun times, the serious times
the cherished times, too.

The early years are a blur
but childhood memories remain strong in my mind.
Sharing lunch on the glider during a hot summer day
opening pretty wrapped presents on Christmas morning.

Our shopping trips downtown were a treat.
The bus rides, the pretty department stores,
lunch with a bowl of rice pudding for dessert.
Struggling to carry the shopping bags home
then sharing the wealth of store bought treasures.

I remember the picnics, the trips to go swimming
playing … Read the rest

To My Husband

To My Husband 3

To My Husband

Thank You for being my friend.
Thank You for being my lover.
Thank You for being my husband.

Your friendship is a gift most valued and cherished.
You listen with an open mind, never criticizing or scolding.
You share the good times and the bad with love and kindness.
You have always been a friend from the first time we met.

Your love is exciting, passionate and tender.
Time spent in a place unknown to others.
Memories long cherished of great desire and sharing.

Your partnership feels both secure and familiar.
Years of sharing, growing and discovering.… Read the rest

A Friend

A Friend 4

A Friend

It’s nice to have a friend.
Someone to laugh with, talk to – cry with.
The bond of friendship grows from sharing good times
working through some bad times
and caring about the life of another person.
A friend is a shoulder to lean on
a helping hand when more than two are needed
a quiet ear to hear a story that needs to be told.
A friend is earned
not a mere acquaintance found out in the world.
A friendship takes time, take care and takes honesty.
A friend is a true gift.
It’s nice to have … Read the rest

The First Dropped Snow

The First Dropped Snow

The first dropped snow fall quietly to the ground.
The sun breaks through thick gray clouds
warmth to replace the ice cold of winter.
Branches are lifting, dropping mountains of snow
no longer prisoners as they spring to life.
Many return to their natural place
while some never move at all.
Unfortunately accidents of a harsh, cruel winter.
Icicles give way – drop, by drop, by drop
as warmth surrounds their frozen still bodies.
Thin, frosted spears become shiny and smooth
as Nature repaints the winter white landscape.
Great blankets of snow reveal secrets below
twisted, … Read the rest

Together

Together is a wonderful place to be.
Together is warm, secure, kind and loving.
A place where two lovers reside.
Warmth from loving and caring
warmth from tender embraces
soft kisses.
Secure from the world outside.
A private space inhabited by two.
Kindness, given and received,
without guilt or demand.
A soft, gentle world created by lovers.
Together is a wonderful place to be.

My Neighbor’s Trees

My Neighbor’s Trees

I sit and gaze at my neighbor’s giant pine tree
reaching to the sky.
I stare at his large old oak
the trunk so gnarled and wide.
Who walked this land years ago
when a lone acorn was waiting for rain?
His sycamore stands so tall and poised
limbs all painted in white and gray.
So many branches already lost
rotting and crashing to the ground.
How many more springs will the sycamore stand?
I sit and contemplate the beautiful trees
the clouds lazy in the sky
communing with Nature
and my neighbor’s trees.

A Body Ignored

A Body Ignored

Sometimes the body screams for attention
often we do not hear.
The mind is too busy with things to do
while emotions are raging inside.

Mind, body and emotions
the essence of our human existence.
We think the mind is strongest of all
but we may only be fooling ourselves.
The body is home for heart and soul
with power as strong as the mind.

They body needs attention
time to rest and relax
time to be gently pampered.
Time without emotions pounding away.
A caring mind will honor the body
free it from pressure
and treat … Read the rest

Love

Love

Love is a gentle caring
a quiet concern
deeply hidden in the heart.
A presence always felt
everyday, every minute, every hour.

Love is a gentle embrace
between body and soul.
A quiet touch of the hand
a soft hug by warm arms
a caress of two souls.

Love is a great passion
between hungry hearts.
The intimate exchange
between mind, body and soul.

Love is always caring
always growing
always being there.
Love is a wonderful gift
shared by two blessed souls
experiencing Heaven on Earth.
