My Buddy

A Poets Corner Posted on September 11, 2016 by Patricia WalterJanuary 4, 2019

my-buddy-1998

My Buddy
The touch of his paw upon my arm
a quiet lick across my wrist
The doggie love of my life – my Buddy
Not some spiffy, purebred beast
but a kind and gentle waif
found out in the street.
He called in a quiet, gentle voice
touching my soul, running into my arms
There’s always the thought –
OH NO ANOTHER DOG!
But I could tell immediately
he was mine, no others
Perhaps somewhere in a far distant time
our souls shared a life together
He’s now my canine companion
the great dog of my life
He will … Read the rest

Independence

Independence - original cat poetry & art by Patricia Walter

Independence

I should have
been named Independence
because that’s how I live my life.
No human ever orders me around.
I’ll sneak away
spend the day in hiding
who cares if they’re looking for me.
Perhaps there’s a time I might decide
to give my human a treat.
I’ll jump on her lap
let her stroke and pet
turn on my purring machine.
I truly delight
to rub my nice human
and circle her legs with great joy.
To those in the know
I look independent
but there’s really a softy inside.

If You Live with the Trees

A Poets Corner Posted on September 11, 2016 by Patricia WalterJanuary 19, 2022

If You Live with the Trees

If you Live with the Trees

If you live with the trees
then you live with the leaves
it’s a law Mother Nature decreed.
You sweep them, rake them
and burn the great piles
there’s always an abundant supply.
They sneak in your house
crumbled and dried
leaving hundreds of pieces to hide.
Those little brown guests
with no manners at all
are long overdue in their stay.
We love the tall trees
the shade from their leaves
their beauty in shape and size.
We watch them turn green
flower in Spring
turn naked in Winter and Fall.
So we … Read the rest

I Am Sorry

A Poets Corner Posted on September 11, 2016 by Patricia WalterDecember 9, 2019

I Am Sorry

I am sorry to cause pain, sorrow or hurt
to a friend I hold dear in my heart.
Life is not easy for body and soul
who must live in a cold, harsh world.

I am sorry at the depth of my heart
it’s not right to criticize or control.
Often the soul, so tender and fragile,
lives in a mist of confusion and doubt.
Guilt and power, easy tools to use,
are taught so early in life.
Why aren’t we taught to love with compassion
to share, be gentle and kind?

I am sorry to cause … Read the rest

Dad’s Thermos

Dad’s Thermos

The worn plastic cup, once shiny and red
was a lifelong companion to thermos and Dad.
Filled to the brim, it’s cradled and held
promising joy to both body and soul.
The coffee, the aroma, all pleasures to behold
provide a break from the work of the day.
Cherished pleasures to be sure, that thermos provides
never far from Dad’s shop and his side.

Long trips, hard jobs, the striped thermos was there
an old, silent partner for years.
Filled reverently each morning with kindness and care
the old thermos was certainly loved.

The old yellow cork, not … Read the rest

Are The Animals Lost in a Mist

Are The Animals Lost in a Mist

Are the animals lost in a mist
a great mist of ignorance and power?
Has man’s great lust for money and wealth
blinded him from life on the earth?
Life given by god to be cherished and loved
the gift to grow and be free.
Many were here before man lost his way
sole tenants of Nature’s great earth.
Man builds and he plants, talking all in his reach
no concern for those in his way.
Not really caring who’s discarded or lost
it’s just man’s cold, hard way.
Not approved by our … Read the rest

A Happy New Home

A Happy New Home 1

A Happy New Home

Sometimes I think – where’s my Mom, where’s my Dad?
Trying to remember the past.
But then I remember the kind gentle hearts of a family that walks on two legs.
A scratch behind the ear, a pat on the head, I’m really part of this pack.
There’s chase and fetch, great tug-of-war and running around with the boys.
Those special treats from the cardboard box – a delight from the kind human hands.
I’ll always remember Mom’s kind gentle ways but the seem unimportant today.
I’m surrounded by love, treated with kindness – even have … Read the rest

A Child’s Joy

A Child’s Joy

Were does the joy in a child come from,
so free and full at play?
The giggles, the smiles
the little squeals of joy
the abandon an adult seldom feels.

Why do we lose this great gift from God
no longer in touch with our hearts?
Our problems so great
building walls thick and tall
blocking the bright lights of joy.

A child feels safe, so free and loved
no boundaries exist in their mind.
They touch, they see, they feel
all things are a wonder to them.

Success

Success

Inner contentment and happiness
are measures of success
not buildings erected as monuments
or fame so soon forgotten
to live each day with joy and peace
the gift of true success

When Your World Breaks

When Your World Breaks

When your world breaks
You can’t see thru the mist
You can’t hear what is said
You can’t think thru the fog
You are left in a time
that no longer exists
You touch – but don’t feel
You talk – but are not heard
You think – but are confused
Sadness overcomes
Joy is lost
Hope far away
Love just a memory
Only faith remains
building a bridge to find a new world
to feel whole
to love again

The Joy of Love

The Joy of Love
Love and devotion are one
as the earth and sky are one.
Neither exists without the other.
May you be blessed
with the infinite joy
from such a love.
